The Wickerman is an excellent festival which offers something a little different to all other festivals, even Glastonbury. Where else could you drink bottles of fine Belhaven ale, whilst munching on haggis, neeps, and tatties, watching a Rabbie Burns marathon poetry reading session? The line up is always eclectic and this year sees no exception.
Leading the way this year are The Charlatans britrock legends, and Teenage Fanclub the influential Glasgow guitar pop gods. They are backed by a stellar line up including the Futureheads, Ocean Colour Scene, 808 state, Goldie Lookin Chain, Saw Doctors and er, Tony Christie. In the Scooter tent punk is well represented by the Undertones and Buzzcocks. Loads more acts are still to be announced. The festival takes place in the middle of nowhere, Scotland (Just kidding). Its actually almost on the coast East Kirkcarswell near to Dundrennan not far from the beautiful town of Kirkcudbright, South West Scotland. There’s certainly no one nearby to complain about the burning of the giant Wickerman and firework show which rounds things off in style on the Sunday evening. Tickets cost a very respectable £85 for 3 day entry car parking and camping. That’s good value in my Yorkshire book of thrift. Last year’s Peace and Love smaller festival of the year winner takes place over the weekend of 23 & 24th July and will hopefully see a Peace and Love presence once again this year. Oh and I nearly forgot, this year’s fancy dress theme is vampires and werewolves. All the news at the Official Site
