The Roll of Honour
Firstly, many, many thanks to all who voted. The votes have been counted in the many categories and below are printed the list of winners plus main runners up. In true awards style, there are also some special awards aside from the more usual categories. This section is very important as it was the original inspiration for this web site, and from little acorns, etc. etc. So to find out who this year's Darkness are (Hey I didn't say good or bad here) please read on.
The Winner : Glastonbury There was really only one winner in this category, the Blue Ribband Event. Glasto scooped 80% of the vote.
The winner : REM REM scoop the award on the basis of their excellent show at Manchester Old Trafford Stadium. The Magic Numbers were everywhere this summer and this got them a runners up spot. Brian Wilson was loved by all who saw him. Shame he probably knows bugger all about it, but that's drugs for you.
The winner : Maximo Park Howay the lads! A fine showing at Leeds saw the geordie boys home. Elsewhere internet sensations the Arctic Monkeys grabbed second whilst the Magic Numbers are nominated without winning again.
The winner : The Dresden Dolls Truly a strange act the dolls blew us away with their cover of War Pigs. Brian Wilson was a surprise to some but expected genius to the rest of us. Cockney troubadours C & D were on top form too. Ladies and gentlemen we break now to present the first of the special awards. This award is presented for the best Unofficial Stage Prop which this year goes to Chas n Dave for a small furry rabbit, closely beating off the Glitterati for their strawberry. Can't remember where either of these came from though.
The winner : Babyshambles And by a bloody country mile too. Mainly for their second stage performance at Glasto and not just from us but pretty much the whole crowd. Browny was ace at Glasto but was well off form (and tune) at V. Anthrax divided opinion but Tim memorably described them as a 'Bunch of Poofs' so they get included here.
The winner : Matlock 1 Matlock was possibly THE event of the summer, Can't think who nominated the Cardiff thing. Lloonstock was memorable for some for the cold - wimps!
The winner : Glaston budget The first thing to say (and this is a bit like judging a vegetable show)was that the overall standard of the entries was extremely high, the exception being the trap 2 monster of Llanbedr. Off the tracks even used a pub (the pub toilets that is, not the public bar). However Glaston budget wins easily due to the fact we had one each.
The winner : Fruit crumble I knew all those hours of watching Delia would pay off Now its on to our second special award. This year it goes to God for the storm at Glastonbury. Whist it was a problem at the time, it was this event of near biblical proportions that made it into the event of the year as well as spawning some classic quotes. Cheers big man!
The winner : Pear Cider There was only ever going to be one winner of one of the most prestigious awards this year. The Brothers Bar has now passed into legend, and you can also get it mail order. What more could a good pisshead want?
The winner : Peace and love tape The only winner to retain an award this year the tape is not only very popular but its spawned this web site and its bloody long lasting. Only problem is, its running out and can it survive a third season?
The winner : Camping at the Redhill Roundabout In hindsight what could be madder than playing rounders at midnight in a field with a few camping lights and no way of seeing the ball? Answer, getting hammered taking your camping gear and setting up in the middle of a municipal roundabout for the night. Nutters, all of you. The final award is not really an award but a roll of the bands we think you should watch out for next year as stars of the festival scene. Whether established or new they will be on our lists this time next year. Step forward our nominees.
Well that's it for this year, don't forget that to view other opinions on 2005 and see top 10s and other gubbins check out the forums section. Roll on 2006! |
