Snow Patrol - Manchester GMEX - 15/12/06

Review by Shorty.

Celtic epic rock makes up for a missed Elbow.

It was a new venue for me in Manchester for Snow Patol. I was filled with anticipation....how would the GMEX fare opposite the crappy and corporate MEN for a bigger venue, and would it be as good as the more intimate Academy?

Elbow were supporting so we left the pub at 8.30pm thinking we'd catch most of their set. No! Disappointingly they were on the last song when we walked in! Not a good start to the night, however the sound we heard was impressive. So a few vino tinto's later, Snow Patrol graced the stage and well....I was mightily impressed. The sound in the GMEX was brilliant and the light show made me feel like I was coming up again as Uncle Peter would say! They played most of the songs on both albums - sorry I cannot remember in which order as I was a bit tipsy by then. (Found it for you - it's printed below - Ed).

They did play 'Set The Fire' however Martha Wainwright was not present. They put on a really good show and even though some of their tunes are a bit slow, they kept the audience going and there was a great atmosphere. With songs as good as 'Run', 'Chocolate' and 'Chasing Cars' they couldn't really fail anyway.

So the verdict on the GMEX - it's recommended! 10 times better than the MEN anyday...plus the loos would definitely get a vote for best toilets of the year had I not already filled in my festival awards.
