80's Matchbox B Line Disaster - The Charlotte Leicester - 30/12/07

Review by Adele.

Seeing out 2007 in some style

Support bands first then. Wander Phantom started events off with some lovely bassy goodness, no complaints. Certainly, they exceeded my low expectations for the start of the evening as their sound thrummed through the floor. The Dirty Backbeats were a little prog rocky and it took me a little while to warm to them. I thought the music was excellent and the band were tight. The singer bothered me for a while, but either the later tracks suited his voice better, or he just warmed up and settled into things, but  a few tracks in I was fully on board rather than bored, which as you know is always a good thing.

I was really looking forward to tonight's headliners. The Eighties Matchbox B Line Disaster had left me with certain expectations after seeing them in Scarborough a couple of years ago, and although the Charlotte was far from sold out (Where are all the music fans at the moment?) the small crowd was made up of fans. The band did not disappoint, apart from one or two mic problems, the performance was tight, high energy, no f**king about rock. The tracks followed one another quickly and the crowd really made the night adding their own energy to the performance. I'm not sure that this is a band you can fully enjoy sitting back with a drink and watching, it needs involvement, and the small following they have in Leicester gave them that. All things considered, it was a good rockin' way to end the old year.
