As predicted by this site, Orbital will close the Sunday night on their spiritual home, The Other Stage as the Glastonbury Festival. They appear alongside the previous headliners U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder. In addition to previous rumours, Peace and Love now reckons Faithless and Gorillaz may both be making an appearance over the weekend. Keep abreast of the latest rumours and lineups Here

Michael Eavis has been named ‘Farmer of the Decade’, by that renowned agricultural resource, the Observer music monthly. Read all about it on the Observer site.

And just remember kids, if the oak is out before the ash, then the weather will be gash, if the ash is out before the oak, then we’ll be having a good soak. Or something like that.

Well you didn’t think they would open in the Peel tent did you? Apparently Mr Eavis has been after their services for a good few years and has now finally succeeded. So come Friday evening, expect a whole host of classics, plus a fair chunk of so so newest album, ‘No line on the Horizon’, plus a sermon or two from Bono. Mmm, wonder if we will see him in the Leftfield during the course of the Day. Find out more from our friends at the NME

The Basics

Glastonbury has a long and detailed history, too much for this simple guide to delve too deeply into. As can be imagined it started small – in 1970 only 1500 people attended the first ever Pilton Festival. The next year it became Glastonbury Fayre and attracted increased numbers, initially travelers and hippies, then a broader mix of music fans. Strangely it then disappeared, at least officially, until 1978 when it was held as the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, and has been held ever since, Read the rest of this entry »
