Over the years there have been some notable rock stars who don’t really look like rock stars at all. Charlie Watts springs to mind. James Dean Bradfield of the Manics looks like an electrician, and need we even mention Jarvis Cocker’s librarian chic look? To this list can be added one [...]

Welcome to a slightly new style of news, where we pick up some highlights of the current festival week. These round ups will replace many of the one off news stories that appear here. The aim is to add to this article as the week progresses if a big story breaks, so keep checking back [...]

Although we have had major news stories about most of the UK festivals for 2010, this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals have gone a little under the radar so far, but no more shall you fear. Tonight sees the major part of the line up announced, first on NME.com at 19.15, followed by loads of [...]

Short but still astonishing.

I must admit to being in a bit of a dilemma. You see I had got myself all geared up to writing a long detailed review of this gig. In the end the band were onstage for barely 45 minutes, using this series of shows as a kind of showcase and warm up for their summer festival shows and thus are honing the set to fit around their allotted and anticipated time slots. And to be fair tickets were a bargain basement £8. Singer James explained that the songs are designed to flow into each other, creating an almost continuous wall of sonic delights. So did this bold claim bear fruit and did the band rise up to justify recent hype? We will see, but first off a wee bit about the band.

Music between the lager showers.

This is the users guide to throwing lager at a gig. First queue for six hours for said product. Then, and this is quite important, drink approximately two thirds of said foul brew. This should result in the remaining amount being warm, flat and pretty much undrinkable. It is [...]

Sparkling glitterballs and cheesy 80’s pop this could have been an 18th birthday party above a pub in Cleethorpes. But no it saw the return of Wakefields favourites to Yorkshire. Now being far to big to play their home town they decamp to this appalling venue. Narrower than a goths view on clothing and longer [...]
